Toxics

  • The Right to Know Network RTK NET is a network providing free access to numerous databases, text files, and conferences on the environment, housing, and sustainable development. With the information available on RTK NET, you can identify specific factories and their environmental effects in anyzip code in the United States via their searchable Toxic Release Inventory database.

  • The Chemical Scorecard A chemical information service provided by the Environmental Defense Fund. This site is packed with resources to help you identify polluters in your community, details about hazardous chemicals and their health effects, and recommendations on what you can do if you find toxic contamination in your community.

  • Environmental Research Foundation Publishers of Rachel's Environment and Health Weekly, providing "News & Resources for Environmental Justice" with in-depth, documented examinations of the scientific, political, and social foundations of environmental and health issues.

  • The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry The mission of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), as an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is to prevent exposure and adverse human health effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure to hazardous substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other sources of pollution present in the environment. This site contains information on toxic contamination, as well as a great glossary of terms used by government and industry.

  • National Oil Refinery Action Network Sponsored by Citizens for a Better Environment (CBE), this organization has been a regional leader in reforming petrochemical manufacturing in the San Francisco Bay Area through winning pollution prevention, policy reform, and community benefit commitments.

  • U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board The USCSHIB is an independent federal agency which was created to improve worker and community safety by investigating, and then developing and communicating recommended operations involved in the production, transportation, and industrial handling, use and disposal of chemicals.


Mining

  • MiningWatch The aim of this site is to provide the tools community organizations need to understand, gauge, and address key issues raised by mineral development, from exploration to mine closure.

  • Project Underground The mission of this site to to support communities threatened by the mining and oil industries. Project Underground targets the range of interests from industry insurers to investors to the public in order to introduce corporate accountability to these sectors. They also work to develop an ethic of consumer responsibility for efficient and sustainable mineral use.


Indigenous Peoples

  • International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) is an organization of Indigenous Peoples from North, Central, South America and the Pacific working for the Sovereignty and Self-Determination of Indigenous Peoples and the recognition and protection of Indigenous Rights, Traditional Cultures and Sacred Lands.

  • Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) The Indigenous Environmental Network is an alliance of grassroots indigenous peoples whose mission is to protect the sacredness of Mother Earth from contamination and exploitation by strengthening maintaining and respecting the traditional teachings and the natural laws.

  • Planet Peace Planet Peace is run by Indigenous community organizers and activists dedicated to the world-wide distribution of information regarding Indigenous and Environmental grassroots initiatives from around the globe. Their mission is to convey, inform, educate, and promote those principles which are dedicated to the protection and preservation of indigenous cultures, traditional customs and ceremonies.

 
Nuclear issues

  • Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) is an information and networking center for citizens and environmental organizations concerned about nuclear power, radioactive waste, radiation, and sustainable energy issues.

  • Nuclear Flashback: Report of a Greenpeace scientific expedition to Amchitka Island, Alaska -- Site of the largest underground nuclear test in U.S. history. A fact-filled report every Alaskan should read.
