You are cordially invited to celebrate the life and work of Rachel Carson on Friday, May 27th!

2016 Rachel Carson flyer ver. 2_web250Rachel Carson was a renowned author, scientist, and  conservationist.  Her book “Silent Spring,” published in 1962, started national conversations and increased public awareness about the effects of synthetic pesticides on the environment. This led to the ban of DDT, new environmental laws, and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). After her death, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Each year, Alaska Community Action on Toxics gathers on (or around) Rachel Carson’s birthday to celebrate her life and achievements. This year we thought “What would Rachel do?” and concluded that we would bring this event back to its roots. We will have a small gathering on the lawn outside the Kincaid Chalet to enjoy some Rachel readings, some cake, and a wild edibles walk.

The event is free so come join us! Please RSVP here so we know how much cake to bake.

There will be:

  • Wild Edibles Walk, learn about the wild buffet emerging in our forest
  • Rachel Carson readings
  • Birthday Cake! What is a birthday without cake?!

Join us on Friday, May 27th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the lawn in front of the Kincaid Chalet.

This event is free, but donations are very much appreciated to support the work of ACAT!
