Plastic & Health: The Hidden Costs of a Plastic Planet
June 27, 2019 @ 10:00am (AKDT)
Our speakers discuss Plastic & Health: The Hidden Costs of a Plastic Planet, a report published in February 2019 by the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL). The report brings together research that exposes the distinct toxic risks plastic poses to human health at every stage of the plastic lifecycle, from extraction of fossil fuels, to consumer use, to disposal and beyond. Our speakers, David Azoulay and Sirine Rached discuss the report findings and recommendations as well as the May 2019 Basel Convention agreement by 187 nations (not including the United States) to control the movement of plastic waste between national borders, in an effort to curb the world’s plastic crisis.
